Visiting Nashville? A Music Lover’s Guide

There are plenty of reasons to visit Nashville, but one of the best? The music, of course. From world-renowned country music establishments to hidden honky tonks, Nashville wasn’t nicknamed “Music City” by accident.

Country music fans from all over the world flock to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in the epicenter of the city. The 350,000 square foot structure contains state-of-the-art galleries, limited-time exhibits, educational spaces, special event areas and retail stores. If you’re a first timer visiting Music City, we suggest you check it out to truly immerse yourself in the culture.

Can’t get enough country music history? Take a tour of the Ryman Auditorium or explore the Johnny Cash or George Jones museums. Stroll along the Music City Walk of Fame on Nashville’s Music Mile and check out the stars that honor artists and industry professionals who create, record and perform music of every genre across the world.

And you certainly can’t leave Nashville without visiting one of the most legendary country music venues and Tennessee’s number one attraction, the Grand Ole Opry. See a live show, take a backstage tour or watch a live recording of the Grand Ole Opry radio show.

CMA Fest is a four-day music festival that takes place each June in Nashville. Fans can see emerging and established artists alike, both day and night. With a multitude of ticket options and some free events and shows throughout the festival, every music fan is sure to find something to love.

All of these well-known establishments and events are great, but we’re going to let you in on a little secret . . . the best live shows in Nashville are never advertised. Some of the greatest performances are the ones that just kind of happen. Many Nashville establishments offer free live music 365 days a year and the best advice we can give you is to just wander in and out of them. Bars line both sides of Broadway, The Gulch, Midtown, Music Valley and more. Some of our favorite places to check out include The Basement, The Listening Room Cafe, Tootsie’s, Bluebird Cafe, The Stage on Broadway and Swingin’ Doors Saloon; however, the possibilities truly are endless.
