Depending on where you live, it might be hard to believe that spring is right around the corner. Ready to plan the perfect spring break getaway for your family? Just follow these tips:
Determine your budget
The first step, and one of the most important, is to determine your budget. Consider every expense you can think of including flights/gas, a rental car, lodging, food, spending money, activities, and entertainment. Remember, a budget is only helpful if you stick to it. Share your budget with your family (at least the members that are old enough to understand what a budget is!) so everyone is on the same page.
Determine what type of vacation you want to take
Tropical getaway or adventure? Luxurious or rustic? Jam-packed itinerary or leisurely and relaxing? Try to get an idea of the type of vacation your family is looking to have. Not sure where to start? Here are 7 spring break ideas that you may not have thought of yet.
Choose a travel agent
A travel agent takes the stress out of planning a vacation. Whether you already have a destination in mind or you just have a budget and an idea of the type of vacation you’re looking to take, a travel agent can help by providing recommendations, making reservations, managing your itinerary, getting you deals and upgrades, and more. Many are surprised to find out that travel planning services are completely free! Be sure to read our FAQ to learn more.
Get prepared
You want your trip to be as enjoyable as possible. From making sure your passports are updated (if traveling outside of the U.S.) to stocking up on sunscreen to getting cash out, a little preparation ahead of time can help. It’s also smart to prepare for the unexpected – ask your travel agent about travel insurance and cancellation policies.
Pack smart
Chances are that if you’re reading this, you’ll be responsible for packing some of your family members’ suitcases for the trip. From carry-on items to entertain your kids on a long flight to toiletries and clothing, it can feel overwhelming. Pack smart by starting early and using a list (and sticking to it!) Be sure to check if your accommodations have a washer and dryer or a laundry service. If so, you may be able to pack less.
Enjoy!
It’s time to take your spring “break!” Relax and enjoy!
